An 8ft tall statue of Frederick Douglass, commissioned in 1961, and the first statue of the famed Abolitionist in all of New York City, stands prominently on the hallowed grounds of FDMP. Encircling the statue are paving stones, all well-worn after 24 years.
In June 2024, FDMP received official designation as a New York City Landmark. Hence, the journey to national landmark recognition, step by step, and brick by brick.
