The Oasis Care Closet is a free resource that was originally established for families caring for children in the child welfare system. The Oasis Care Closet was launched as a resource for The Oasis Project Foster Network in February 2021. It came together to meet the practical needs and help lift the financial burden off our program's foster/adoptive/kinship families. When meeting with the families in our program, many expressed that it could be a financial burden taking in children that came into care. When a child comes into care, they often have nothing but the clothing they are wearing. As caretakers, you can’t possibly have everything on hand for children's wide range of ages and needs. You never know what age a child will be that needs a safe place. Being able to accept a child into a loving home is the family's first priority, being able to help them get what is needed to care for the child is one less thing to worry about.
The Care Closet is where families can shop for their foster/adoptive AND bio children. Since we launched, the community has donated countless items to meet our needs - everything from cribs, strollers, clothes, shoes, toys, games, and so much more! Because of the generosity of the community, we have been able to serve hundreds of families not only in our Foster Network, but have also been able to expand. In expanding, we have been able to serve the greater community. We started serving needy families through referrals that have come in through local churches and agencies. This includes the local homeless population and families in need that find themselves falling on hard times. The worries a parent has when they have found themself in hard times and are unable to provide for their families are numerous; being able to assist them and potentially keep a family together is a true blessing.
Over the last year and a half, we have operated our store out of a bedroom and have outgrown the space. This store is also at a licensed foster home and is taking up a bedroom that could be utilized for a child in need. We need to move our closet to a permanent location, and we need your help to make it happen! Moving the Care Closet to a new home that makes it accessible for families and allows for more storage of items required comes with a hefty price tag. Some things that need to be accounted for are the space, land preparation, preparing the closet to be functional and organized, utility bills, and more! The Brick by Brick Fundraiser is an excellent opportunity for YOU, your business, your church, or a group of friends to pitch in and have a permanent mark on our closet!
