Over the course of our country’s history, communities have watched as their loved ones left to defend our freedoms, and the freedoms of others. Ayers Township is no exception. As far back as the Civil War, our family and friends have been willing to risk it all for us. Now, Ayers Township wants to honor those who have served, and are serving, in the United States military. It is our goal to construct a monument in tribute to these individuals. We are not able to do this alone so we are asking for your help.
Ayers Township is proposing to add a Veteran’s Memorial at the Northeast corner of Lincoln and Diller in Broadlands. The veteran’s memorial will be approximately 20 feet wide by 20 feet deep. It will be constructed of a stamped concrete base. There will be a large granite monument depicting all five of our military branches of service and, a large concrete boulder, which will hold the original plaque from the Broadlands Community Building. In between the military monument and the boulder will be a flagpole.
A designated space in both front corners will be allotted for approximately 360 personalized donor brick pavers. These brick pavers are the fundraising portion for this project. The brick pavers will be available for sale in 2 sizes. A 4x8 brick or an 8x8 brick. The 4x8 bricks will allow for 3 rows of text with a maximum of 12 characters per line. The 8x8 bricks will allow for 6 lines of text with a maximum of 20 characters per line. The 4x8 paver bricks will sell for $50.00 each. The 8x8 paver bricks will sell for $100.00 each.
We are not limiting the personalized paver bricks to only veterans from Ayers Township. Any veteran in our local community who served in our countries military or anyone currently serving on active duty is acceptable. Personalized donor bricks may also be purchased by any family or business in support of this project. This memorial will allow a special row of personalized paver bricks directly in front of the monument and the flagpole. This special designated area will be reserved for the “gold star” veterans from our community who paid the ultimate sacrifice and gave life in service to our country. If anyone does not wish to purchase a donor brick , but would rather make a direct donation to Ayers Township for this project, that would also be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to the staff and students at Heritage High School who assisted in the project design and computer animation seen in this webpage.
Donation deadline: 11/1/2023.
